Next Thursday the 18th of October Comedy Finland presents a very special show in Helsinki featuring one of the biggest comedians on the circuit today, Brendon Burns from Australia!

For two decades now the adopted Australian has been Britain’s most outspoken and number one cult comic. Since taking away the long-awaited Oscar of live stand-up comedy: the if.comedy award for best live comedy show in 2007, Burns has been one of the most prolific and busiest men in showbusiness both here and across the pond.

In late 2008 Burns recorded not one but two live DVDs for Universal, and aired a special on Comedy Central over the Spring of 2009.

Also in the fall of 2009 Burns made his US TV debut on Paul Provenza’s Green Rooms on Showtime as a regular contributer and panellist. Appearing alongside such greats as Eddie Izzard, Andy Kindler, Andy Dick, Roseanne Barr, Larry Miller, Dana Gould and Jonathan Winters.

Dag Sørås (NO)

Dag Sørås is the number one comedian in Norway today. He is hard-hitting, politically charged and brutally honest. Afghanistan, the surveillance state, social anxiety, anti-intellectualism and religion are just some of the springboards Sørås bounces off before plunging head first into a deep pool of controversy. Be in no doubt – this is exceptionally skillful comedy for those not interested in being patronised or pandered to.

Dag currently has his own show on Norwegian TV called D-Dag and recently finished a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with his show “Outside the Comfort Zone”. Dag’s raw, intelligent comedy attracted the attention of one of the worlds top comedians, Doug Stanhope and Dag has opened for him on his last tour of England and Norway.

Jacques weaves character renditions into social commentary with strong performance skills with well written material for some poignant comedy. Jacques has spent the last year honing his stagecraft on the world stage with a tour stopping off in South East Asia, South Africa, Romania, Prague, Switzerland and 6 months on the tough UK comedy circuit. Ardal O’Hanlon, star of TV’s Father Ted (Dougal McGuire) is coming to Tallinn for one very special stand up show! We run numerous comedy shows in Estonia and we are very proud to have such a International star come to visit us. This is a once off show and to see Ardal you need to come to Tallinn (do you really need a better excuse now?).

Ardal O’Hanlon

Award winning comedian, actor, writer – and star of Father Ted (C4); My Hero (BBC 1), Val Falvey (RTE) and Leagues Apart (RTE). A highly acclaimed stand up, Ardal has toured to sell out audiences internationally and has released two Top Ten stand up DVD’s. He continues to be one of the most sought after comedians working, with regular sell out solo tours in the UK, USA and Australia. With guest leads in programmes as diverse as Skins (C4) and Doctor Who (BBC), Ardal also stars in the feature film, Wide Open Spaces. His debut novel The Talk of the Town remained in the Best Seller charts for more than six months and was recently voted one of the 1001 books to read before you die.

Yoshi Obayashi (JPN/USA)

Yoshi was born in Japan, but is ethnically a North Korean. He was not aware of his background until he was 18 years old. This might have led him into the world of comedy (due to the fact that his family was too cheap to send him to a psychiatrist). Since Yoshi does not possess any nuclear bombs, he uses his horrible comedy to spread misery and his signature “awfulness.” The first and only winner of the Pyongyang International Comedy Fest, he has participated in NBC’s Last Comic Standing and as well as Russell Peters’ Comics Without Borders, and was also a consultant and writer for seasons 1 & 2 of Dave Attell’s Showtime series Dave’s Old Porn. Yoshi has enjoyed pening for Jim Norton, Dave Attell, Russell Peters, Pablo Francisco and Joe Rogan.

You can also hear him on David “Mr. Facebook” Choe’s podcast “KGB” (Koreans Gone Bad). After working as a DVD producer for nine years, Yoshi was unceremoniously fired from one of the premier porn companies, Evil Angel. During his career, he has chaptered 762 porn movies!

Jason Rouse is set to perform in Helsinki at On the Rocks on 21.7.2012 with our very own Ali Jahangiri. Two shows during the same night, one at 19:00 and one at 21:00. Tickets available at tiketti or at the door.

Glenn Wool (CAN)

An 18-year veteran of the comedy world, Wool has always been a political stand-up – political in the sense that every facet of life is dissected on the grounds of morality, hypocrisy and common decency. While at home as a denim-clad everyman, he’s deceptively intelligent and unpredictable.

Wool is a superlative storyteller; and lest you think that means a quietly whimsical geek speaking quietly of romanticised yarns, think again. Wool is a big, forthright, Canadian bear of a man with the sort of bold yarns that could be barked out after a gallon of beer in an isolated bikers’ pub. But, to counter that, they are told with a subversive playfulness, a winning dollop of self-deprecation and goggle-eyed incredulity. With his rock-and-roll charisma exerting perfect control, and perfect sense of comic phrasing in his yarns, Wool has a potent combination.

Steve Hughes (AUS)

Remember what the world used to be like before we confused everyone with too many options and made everything so politically correct? Australian born, British-based comedian Steve Hughes certainly does – it feels like he’s been recently revived from a time capsule interred 20 years ago in order to delightfully denigrate various methods of ‘oppression by stealth’ in this marvellous comedy show.

Hughes’ comedy is not forced and he has no gimmicks – what you see is what you get, and if you don’t like it, that’s your choice – a world view defined as “simplified Buddhism” by Hughes himself in this challenging but comfortable show.

We finish our spring season of comedy in Helsinki on May 3rd with an extra special event, “The Best of Beer & Jokes”!

Comedy Finland is the premiere English Stand Up group in Finland and every two weeks we hold “Beer & Jokes”, our open mic at Molly Malone’s so that comedians can test their new material.

The BEST OF BEER & JOKES night is a showcase for the best new material our comedians have come up with in 2012 so far. This promises to be a fantastic night of the freshest new comedy!
