Performing stand-up since 1993 Ben has a reputation for abandoning his prepared material and building an entire show based on his interactions with the audience. He has performed at comedy and music festivals the world over and is a regular at London’s world famous Comedy Store.

He is the father of triplets, occasional rapper and cousin of the actor Martin Freeman (who is soon to appear as Bilbo in the Hobbit movie)

HEADLINER: Evelyn Mok (SWE)

We had her in 2010 and she was one of our most loved and requested comedians, so here she is!

Evelyn Mok started with Stand Up in 2008 and in 2009 moved to Stockholm to pursue the career full time. This spring she was selected to attend Stand Up Star, a selective course for young comedians in Sweden who show a lot of promise within the humor industry.

She is a self described Chinese westerner. Born to Chinese parents in Sweden Evelyn struggled to incorporate the two cultures during her upbringing however often resulting in confusion and frustration. She deals with these issues in her Stand Up.

A lot of attention has fallen on Evelyn’s specific stage character, a shy socially akward youngster who shares with the audience her gloom experiences. People mean that this character conveys a third dimension to her jokes.

It is also this character that will be featured in a 10-sketch internet series for the Swedish National Broadcast Channel.

We have two fabulous International headliners for you, our main man being Nigel Williams. Nigel is English but a long time resident of Belgium and a big star there. His political comedy is always on the pulse and he has visited Finland before.

Belgiums ‘no holds barred’ comedian. If you like your comedy a bit rough around the edges ,you’re gonna love this guy. Nigels act is full of energy and healthy misanthropic rants, lots of improvisation and audience participation guaranteed. ‘Like a long distance sprint of laughs with no final destination’.

He was born in Bristol UK and left school at 15, worked as factory worker/ union organiser and barkeeper before taking up stand-up comedy. His first show was called ‘The Penis Monologue’ most recent show is called ‘Believe me!!’ (about religion and other fables). JAMES MCKIE (UK)
ROBERT PETTERSSON (FIN)
STEWART JOHNSON (USA)
ERIC SEUEFERT (USA)
AKI OKSANEN (FIN)

Host: LOUIS ZEZERAN (AUS)

James McKie (UK)

James has received glowing reviews as a comic ranging from “He was very punctual” to “He looks like that animated man who sells TV decoders on Swedish TV”. He was once thrown off a bus for arguing with a nun and asked to leave the opening night of the Christmas play at his child’s school for heckling the shepherds. On the same day.

Robert Pettersson (FIN)

Comedy newcomer of the year (2009), also known as the Dark Redeemer, Robert Pettersson hates both politics and political correctness. Born in 1970. Star sign: Scorpio. Eyes: green. Source of inspiration: porn.

 Stewart Johnson (USA)

American Stewart Johnson originally hails from the state of Wisconsin, where they make Harleys, cheese and toothpaste. He has a degree in nuclear politics, but now much prefers to perform stand-up comedy.

Stewart lives in Estonia and has two children with his wife of ten years. He enjoys the outdoors, reading, cooking and singing in the car. He first arrived in Tartu on the Baltic Express, back when Estonia was still connected to the rest of the world via train. He has studied Estonian and Russian in the University of Tartu, has done a stint as an English teacher and has even been deported. His current day job is fixing other people’s mistakes.

 Eric Seufert (USA)

Eric combines brusque cultural observations with the mindset of a teenager who has at once discovered both beer and his dad’s stash of pornographic magazines. Eric first performed stand-up comedy very drunkenly on his 21st birthday in Austin, Texas — notably, not in any of the clubs in town that ever hosted Bill Hicks. Eric has written for various print and online publications, including the Austinist, Political Derby, and Cracked.com and can now can be seen performing across Europe — especially in Scandinavia and the Baltic states, where audiences are forced to laugh at him just to stay warm.

English Stand Up At Apollo Hesinki

After the great success of our first English night at Apollo in Helsinki, we are back on November 17th with another huge show!

WHAT: Apollo Stand Up Club Helsinki – English Night
WHEN: 17th November 2011
WHERE: Apollo, Helsinki
TICKETS: Lippu: 16€/13€ at Lippu

HEADLINER: Josh Howie (UK)

Dubbed the “young Woody Allen”, Josh was raised as a Buddhist, before living with Native Americans and finally settling down as a trainee Rabbi. At least that was the plan until he was kicked off the program for getting caught with a naked (non-Jewish) girl. Perhaps it was inevitable that he would go on to become a stand-up comic.

Performing regularly at all the major comedy clubs around the UK, last year Josh also took his distinctive brand of humour to Ireland, France, China and Thailand. He has also written and performed two solo shows for the Edinburgh Festival, before sell-out runs at the Soho Theatre. His last show “Gran Slam”, was based on his time living with his grandmother. Another distinctive and highly original show, Gran Slam also went down a storm with audiences and critics alike.

“Intelligently neurotic”

“The very undervalued Josh Howie delivers self-deprecating sharply written slices of neuroticism. There’s a distinct (and lovely) whiff of the Woody Allens”

“Headline comedy came from Josh Howie, bringing the evening to a close with howls of laughter and the occasional “oooh” that accompanies a joke that you’re just not sure is socially acceptable but makes you laugh regardless”

Ismo Leikola (FIN)

Ismo Leikola is about as good as they come. This jokes are precise, well written and hilarious. Ismo’s accent and style might be even funnier in English!
